USA: Protesters urge Biden to grant TPS recipients permanent residency at DC march

Hundreds of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients and their families marched through Washington DC, on Tuesday, to urge President Joe Biden to grant them permanent residency and a path towards US citizenship.

Members of the National TPS Alliance and their allies marched through the streets of the Nation’s Capital towards the White House calling on both the Biden administration and Congress to take action to guarantee a path to US citizenship for over 400,000 TPS beneficiaries.

Like many other children of TPS recipients who came from across the country today, Virginia Reina-Landaverde came to rally for her parents out of fears of being separated by deportations.

The Director of the Washington DC Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs, Jackie Reyes-Yanes stressed that due to the COVID-19 Pandemic it was ‘crucial’ to “get legal residence for our brothers and sisters who have TPS,” as many of them are ‘essential workers.’
