Germany: Nuremberg residents gather to remember victims of NSU killings

Nuremberg residents participated in a memorial on Wednesday, on the 16th anniversary of the the murder of Ismail Yasar, killed by the National Socialist Underground (NSU) neo-Nazi cell. Participants laid flowers next to images of Yasar as well as other victims killed by the NSU. A speaker from the organisation Breaking the Silence said victims’ relatives are still waiting for answers. “The promised for a complete clarification did not materialise, numerous questions remained unanswered, and countless were added,” he continued. “Halle, Hanau and the murder of Walter Lubke [CDU politician] are sad highlights of German continuity,” he added. Fifty-year-old Ismail Yasar was shot five times by members of the National Socialist Underground (NSU) in his doner kebab restaurant on June 9, 2005. He had three children. His murder was part of a series of murders conducted by the neo-Nazi cell between 2000 and 2007. They killed 10 people with a foreign heritage in the seven-year period, including Abdurrahim Ozudogru and Enver Simsek in Nuremberg.
