China: Residents stock up on groceries amid lockdown in Shijiazhuang

People waited in line to pick up grocery supplies in Shijiazhuang, on Thursday, as residential communities remain under a lockdown imposed on January 7 with the aim of isolating a new coronavirus outbreak.

Residents were seen collecting pre-ordered food from across a fence at a market in the compound of Chang’an District, Thursday.

Volunteers in the compound checked food orders as residents from compounds with no coronavirus cases collected their goods from a gated entrance.

Shijiazhuang, the capital and largest city of northern China’s Hebei Province, with a population of 11 million, has become a coronavirus hotspot, after confirming 84 out of the 90 new coronavirus cases in Hebei province on Tuesday, reports said.
