Belgium: Protest over death of young Black man in police custody rocks Brussels

Hundreds of protesters took the streets of Brussels on Wednesday following the death of a 23-year-old Black man who died in police custody last weekend.

Shattered glass and a destroyed bus top were seen at Liedts Square, where demonstrators reportedly smashed the windows and set a police station on fire.

Riot police officers could also be seen trying to disperse protesters in Brussels North as several arrests were made.

According to the Belgian police, Ibrahima B was arrested last Saturday for flouting curfew rules, and died about an hour after his arrest ‘to the consequences of a heart attack.’ The prosecutor’s office announced today that an investigation has been launched.
