UK: London hotel on standby to help NHS house discharged COVID patients

Staff at a hotel in Croydon, south London, said they were ready to help the National Health Service in dealing with discharged COVID-19 patients on Wednesday.

It was reported that patients were already being housed at the Best Western Plus in order to free up bed space in King’s College Hospital.

However, the local area manager Alex Palaghiu denied the reports, saying they were more than happy to help out the NHS if required to do so.

“It is a bit concerning [that the NHS is, or will be, relying on hotels], everyone came across [came through] these unprecedented times, no one expected it and we had to adapt, so we are ready to support the NHS,” said Palaghiu.

Specialist equipment could be seen inside the foyer. A patient transport ambulance also drove down the street that the hotel is situated on.
