UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stephane Dujarric warned the US decision to list Houthi rebels as a terrorist group may worsen the humanitarian situation in Yemen. He was speaking at a news conference in New York City on Monday.
“The humanitarian operation which, I remind you, is the largest in the world cannot replace the private sector or compensate for major drops for commercial imports of food and other essential goods. There is a growing risk of famine in Yemen, and that underlines for us the imperative for the US to swiftly grand the necessary licenses and exemptions to ensure that principal humanitarian assistance can continue to reach all people who need it across the country without disruption,” said Dujarric.
Human Rights Watch condemned the move warning of a “threat for the humanitarian aid” for millions of Yemenis.
