China: WHO COVID tracing team to arrive in Beijing this week – govt spox

A team of international experts from the World Health Organisation (WHO) is due to arrive in Beijing on Thursday to assess the origins of the coronavirus.

“World Health Organisation and international experts fully affirmed China’s achievements in epidemic prevention and the traceability of the virus,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian stated during a press briefing in Beijing on Monday.

Zhao said Beijing had invited WHO experts to visit China twice since the start of the outbreak, adding, “China has maintained close communication and cooperation with the World Health Organisation on global virus traceability in an open, transparent, and responsible manner.”

Zhao urged cooperation from scientists worldwide, and said the WHO is due to “conduct similar visits to other countries and regions as necessary.”

“it is very likely that the source will be designed in many countries and places,” the spokesperson concluded.

The Chinese government “firmly opposes” the removal of US-Taiwan restrictions. “There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory,” Zhou declared.

“We will never allow anyone or any force to hinder the process of China’s reunification and use the Taiwan issue to interfere in China’s internal affairs. Any act that harms China’s core interests will be resolutely hit back by China, and will not succeed,” Zhou warned.
