Germany: No return to ‘pre-lockdown mode’ in current situation says Spahn

German Health Minister Jens Spahn urged the public to adhere tightly to the COVID preventative measures, while striking a note of optimism over the arrival of vaccines, at a press conference alongside president of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) Lothar Wieler in Berlin on Wednesday.

“I don’t see how we could return to pre-lockdown mode in this situation. As hard as it is, this also applies to New Year’s Eve,” stressed Spahn.

His words came after the RKI reported 1,129 COVID-19 deaths for the day before, bringing the total number of fatalities to 32,107.

Spahn added that at the same time, the mass anti-coronavirus vaccination that kicked off at the weekend throughout Europe and all over Germany gave “hope and confidence.”

“Let’s continue to watch out for each other, keep distance, to protect ourselves and others,” Spahn urged German citizens.
